Apr-28-04  Ed Caruthers: What's wrong with 25...Qxc2 ?
Premium Chessgames Member
  tpstar: <Ed Caruthers> Great pick-up! 25 ... Qxc2 26. Rbd1 Rxf2 27. R3d2 (27. R1d2? Rf1++) Rxd2 28. Rxd2 Qc7 (preventing 29. Qd8) with 2 Pawns profit, but not 25 ... Qxc2 26. Qd8?? Qxb1+ 27. Rd1 Rxd8. Maybe Black was fixated on the weak back rank idea, trying to remove the Bb4 and Rb1 with the Queen maneuver, but missed 26. Qd4 (foiling 26 ... Qxb4) along with the clever discovered attack (28. Qxg7+! Kxg7 29. Bc3+). Later Black had fine drawing chances with 34 ... Bg2+ 35. Kg1 Bxf3, but erred with 34 ... Rd2? allowing White to trade Rooks and snatch the a Pawn.
Dec-20-04  Whitehat1963: 28.Qxg7!! I bet you'll take my queen this time. What a great exchange, one of the best I've seen. Great whole board vision. And the endgame technique is good as well.
Jan-06-05  aw1988: 28. Qxg7+! is quite a combination!

  Benzol: Is there anything wrong with Black playing 34...♗g2+ and 35...♗xf3?
Premium Chessgames Member
  samvega: 28.Qxg7+ is a nice defensive combination. I guess white has a won game, but as Benzol alludes, surely black could have played a better 34th move. Putting the rook on a dark square seems like an obviously bad idea.
