Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-03-05  ughaibu: It's interesting to compare the early part of this game with Topalov vs Leko, 2005
Nov-03-05  Runemaster: After 41...Kf6 Geller only needed a little shuffle of his rooks to bring about a winning K+P endgame. 41...Kf8 was necessary; I can't see an immediate win for White then.

LRLeighton: Although there isn't an immediate win for white, 41...Kf8 is hopelessly lost for black. White doesn't need to force mate; he has two rooks and an extra (passed) pawn, and he will pick up one of the black q-side pawns in a couple of moves.

LRLeighton: This is such a typical Geller game. Maximalist style, central breakthrough, each move in the middlegame a threat, tactics in support of the general strategy. This game made a huge impression on me when I first started studying the Catalan. It's a great example of how one can get an attack from this seemingly quiet opening.
