Mar-11-09  KingG: Apparently this is some footage of the Tal vs Kasparov game in 1992: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6nU....
Mar-11-09  AnalyzeThis: <blueofnoon: If you look at his blitz rating during 2000-2008, you will realize Kasparov was second to none in this area even after his peak. >

Fischer didn't have a blitz rating. I wonder what sort of a rating you give a guy who wins practically every game against the world's best?

Mar-11-09  KingG: Trying to compare blitz strength or greatness across different eras is even more stupid than in classical chess. At least with classical chess we have the game scores and a substantial number of tournaments to go by. With blitz all we have are a few tournaments and some anecdotes.

What is clear I think is that Fischer was clearly the best blitz player in the world by the early 70's and Kasparov was the best blitz player of his time.

Feb-18-11  fab4: @ Peligroso Patzer.... after your 29..Ra6 simply 30.Rd7 wins. Since after 30..Ra3 31.Rc7 the white pawn on d6 cannot be stopped due to the unfortunate postion of the black king ect..

This is a great site but to see so many 'patzers' thinking they know better than a chess God such as Fischer is just embarrassing ..

Toga evaluates as best play

29...Ra6 30.Rxd7 Rxa3 31.Re7 Kf8 32.Rxe6 Ra1+ 33.Kh2 Rd1,

with +0.05 P for White.

I agree with you. I always recommend that they check their logic with a chess engine, to improve the kibitzing on the site.

My chessforum has instructions for downloading Toga, in case you are interested.

Thanks for the tip and I like your dry wit. I only looked at the position pretty quickly but fair enough..

Personally I prefer to use my own imagination and ability when looking at positions.. You can get too lazy using a chess engine all the time.

Reading posts on this site it's more fun and more worthy if you feel any lines offered have emanated from the posters head and not silicon..

Mar-03-11  Lennonfan: <this is a great site but to see so many patzers thinking they know better than a chess god such as fischer is embarrassing>!!! People are merely giving there opinions which is what this site is for, nobody claims to know more than fischer himself, people are only debating, just like you are above concerning moves in the game, and its your points which are embarrassing mr<fab4> i know you like having debates concerning your idol,in fact mass debates over fischer, but your pompous, know it all, childish, attitude,is becoming annoying,as whenever i come to kibitz on a fischer game your here worshiping and preaching...for what its worth i think your a teenage boy, with serious issues, there's being a fan,and there's being obsessed to the point whenever someone disagrees with you,you personally offend them and claim they know nothing about chess...btw whats your rating?? Fancy a game?? Let me know mr fabster...all the best Lennonfan....
Mar-03-11  TheFocus: <Lennonfan> Did you look in a mirror while you made that last post. You should have.

Pompous, indeed!

Like I said before, ever since you arrived, you have had a chip on your shoulder. You will learn that the longer you stay.

If you have not realized it, many people are here to debate. Even you.

We like to express our opinions. I certainly do.

Mar-03-11  Lennonfan: <the focus>i am many things,im a common lad,but pompous isn't one of those things...far from it!..i realise your very pro fischer and maybe sticking up a bit for <fab4>as he's,well he's obsessed with the man! And this chip on my shoulder..well maybe i have, but if so iv only developed it since joining cg.com as some of the things people say that catch my eye can annoy me and im not the type of fella to kp my opinions to myself..as you can tell. I do realise they're different levels of intellgence on this site,so when i see people whom i consider to be pompous(amongst other things!) spk down to genuinely decent folk with good opinions,by using offensive and insulting diatribe toward them, then il spk up for them ppl if need be..and especially if its toward myself..you seem a decent fella, but when a young man like me asks you kindly if i could post a short game on ur forum for you to pick apart and give me an opinion on,your reply in itself was rather pompous, and it wouldn't have hurt you to let me would it?
Mar-03-11  Lennonfan: And did i not say in my first post to <f4>ppl are here to debate, myself included, not hero worship and call other kibitzers "patzers"if they dont agree with everything fischer says and does?? <f4>keeps having a dig at my posts, telling ppl my username is an insult to john lennon etc...(im a lennon fan,not an obsessive...he is my hero if thats the correct word, but he was also flawed nonetheless.).. Some ppl are up there own backsides, yet 95% of ppl on here are interesting, pleasant, have good points of view, and i can learn from them...
Mar-03-11  TheFocus: <Lennonfan> <you seem a decent fella, but when a young man like me asks you kindly if i could post a short game on ur forum for you to pick apart and give me an opinion on,your reply in itself was rather pompous, and it wouldn't have hurt you to let me would it?>

I do have valid reasons.

My Forum, like most people's Forums are to HIGHLIGHT and SHOWCASE ourselves, our games, our opinions, etc. MOST people will not put other people's games on their Forums, unless they invite them to.

Also, my Forum does not generate enough "hits" to be of any value for YOU. <Kibitzer's Page> would be more likely to get a lot of attention and commentaries. Why not post it there? I visit often and would comment there.

Mar-04-11  Lennonfan: <the focus> i may just post a short game at the kibitzers page then...GM keene recently emailed me after sending him a short game telling me to send him all my best games and he'l publish one in his times column,so im quite flattered about that,as i obviously am a patzer to him...but i respect ppl like him as opposed to ppl like <fab4>who have no where near the knowledge GM keene has,yet still goes from forum to forum calling ppl patzers who dont agree with bobby fischer!!! In fact mr keene's been a true gentleman...and when i asked to post on your page,it was because i know you have a high rating, and a vast chess knowledge as you too write,or in the middle of writing, books on the game,so i only intended it for you to look at..the amount of hits your page gets is irrelevent,i just wanted your opinion, and if anybody else had any advice or criticism then that would have been welcome too..you knew full well i wouldn't post it at the life masters page,as he'd of just deleted it,along with an insult thrown in!
Mar-04-11  TheFocus: <Lennonfan> <you knew full well I wouldn't post it at the life masters page,as he'd of just deleted it,along with an insult thrown in!>

No, I was truly trying to help. <AJ> has done some good analytical work <my fingers are BLEEDING from having typed that>, and I thought he might help you. He would probably run it through his engines and give you a better analysis than I could. But if you post it at <Kibitzer's Cafe>, I will take a look and give you an honest assessment.

I WAS not trying to play you for a fool.

Of course <AJ> did begin attacking me after that, although that may have been coincidental.

Mar-04-11  Lennonfan: <the focus> i were only joking mate,i knew you weren't trying to play me for a fool regarding the life master, but as much as i respect the title,i dont respect the man,and he wouldn't have given any constructive advice anyway...well going on the way he talks to ppl that even compliment him he certainly wouldn't!! And i did notice he began attacking you for no reason afterwards lol...so just ducked out of that one! Thanks anyway though..
Mar-04-11  TheFocus: <Lennonfan> I noticed you went instead to <GM Raymond Keene> which was a MUCH better idea. I didn't know he would be as helpful as he is. Now I know who to suggest in the future.

I mean, HE has a GM title!!

Mar-04-11  Lennonfan: <the focus>...i dont know whether your being sarcastic with that last comment or not?? Either way he has been very helpful, and he does have a rating above 2500,(or did have)so that makes him a GM right?? Forgive my naivety if im wrong on both counts but the man certainly knows his chess, and thats exactly the right type of person i wanted to analyse my games! Thats why i asked you...wot is your rating btw if you dont mind me asking?
Mar-04-11  TheFocus: <Lennonfan> If you had seen my posts at GM Keene's page, you would know that I have a lot of respect for GM Keene. I am only saying that he would be a much better choice than the one I gave you.

And he is definitely a GM, no doubt. Noted author (some great ones, some duds) and chess columnist.

2235 (minor master).

Mar-04-11  Damianx: I have a Kasparov interview where they ask him what he thinks of the current 2800 club he says their all good players but there isn,t a Fisher in the group then the interview asks well is Fisher the best ever he answers i don,t know but i can tell you the 2 best ever Fisher & Kasparov
Dec-13-11  sfm: Why did Black resign?
Dec-13-11  Petrosianic: Because he's a piece down? I feel like I must be missing something.

FSR: My guess is that Mednis was not only a piece down, but way behind on time as well. (This was a blitz game.)
Mar-12-17  Albanius: Mednis might have tried
15 ..Nxe5
16 Nxe5 Nxe5
(not 16..Qxe5 17 Re1 and 18 cxd5)
17 Qd4 Nxc4
18 Qxg7 OOO! unclear
(18 ..Ke7? 19 Qf6+! Kd7 20 Qxf7+ Kc6 21 Qxe6+)
Maybe W could then attack with Bc1, g3, Bf4 and Rb1 threatening Rb8+ but B might be able to find a defense meanwhile, eg Rf8, Qxc5, Nd6.
Mar-12-17  Albanius: Mednis resigned because
31..Ra6
32 Bc5 Ra1+
33 Kh2 a6 or a5
34 Ra7 keeping the B K locked in
(..h5 and Kh7 allows Bf8)
The extra piece should eventually prevail, though Fischer was probably ahead on the clock) while 31..a6 allows 32 Rd6 exchanging Rs or winning a P.
