Sep-01-05  Helios727: Did black lose on time?
Sep-01-05  halcyonteam: Why the game concludes here? Did i miss anything?

my msn, yahoo messenger: halcyonteam

thanks

Sep-02-05  Helios727: That's why I asked if black lost on time.
Apr-26-09  madlydeeply: why does fischer play 12 Nd2 instead of c3...but play c3 two moves later? must be psychological...take my knight, fool!
Apr-26-09  madlydeeply: perhaps he was gearing up with some c4 or f4 pawn stormage but 12...f5 changed the game dynamic to the weak e5 square and e6 pawn. c3 and c4 both come with tempo...
Apr-26-09  TheWizardfromHarlem: madly deeply-- 12 c3 Nxc3 and the bishop forks rook and king
Jul-11-16  zanzibar: There's a photograph of this game (among very many), after 10...Nd5:

(Scroll about ~1/2 way down)

The photograph is so good I read this position:

off the board to find this game.

Jul-11-16  Peter Nemenyi: Yes, "Black overstepped the time limit in a worse, but not completely hopeless endgame" (quoted from Karsten Müller's book of Fischer's games).

Indeed, amongst many high-quality photos in that gallery.

McAfee designates this site as malicous. I don't know why.

Jul-12-16  PhilFeeley: <The photograph is so good I read this position: > I don't see how. In the photograph, the black queen is on b2, black pawn on c5, white pawn on a3, white bishop on a4. Not at all like the position you post. The rest of the board is the black castled King, bishop on f6, pawn on e6.

Must have been another photo.

Particularly when Fischer doesn't have
a live game underway.

Two photos above that.

Jul-12-16  zanzibar: <PhilF> it's always with a little trepidation that I do these match-ups...

But I think it was right, the photo is here:

Fischer's playing White on the board at the bottom left. The caption in the main feed gives:

<Chess Olympiad 1962 Varna
In the first row on the left board we can see Bobby Fischer>

Sidenote- the url has to be patched to publish on <CG> (what a pain), using HTML entities for (), i.e. & lpar; and & rpar; (sans space after &)

I wonder if they had to pay extra
for the "chessboard" chairs? :)

Jul-12-16  zanzibar: In the words of Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan...

Squares to the right, here I am,

Stuck in the middle with you>

I haven't looked up players, or board order, just by eye, it looks like,

R. Byrne next to Fischer,
Benko behind Fischer, and Evans next to Benko.

Jul-12-16  Olavi: The USA team in that match was Fischer, Evans, Byrne, Byrne.

perfidious: At least one did not get twice Byrned, the Olympiads not being held under the Scheveningen format--unless, of course, an unfortunate soul got to face one brother in the preliminaries and the other in the final group.

diceman: Wow, back in 1962 R. Byrne was actually an IM.

Dec-02-16  clement41: After 15...Qf6 offering the trade of queens, obviously white does not want to trade as black would then get the ...e5 break supported by the new f6 pawn. And white cannot routinely castle either, as 16 Qxe5 de would be in black's pawn structure's favour (e6 no longer weak, e.g.).

Hence the right move, 16 Nf3! , getting ready to post a beautiful knight on e5 in the event of a queen trade.

catlover: <Zanzibar> Thanks for the link. I found Fischer in the photo of all the games going on, plus the later photo of just Fischer. But my favorite photo in that link is Boris Spassky in the youth tournament of 1955. Of course he looks incredibly young. His profile is unmistakeable.
