Jun-26-09  AnalyzeThis: What Capa did here was very, very clever, and shows what a shrewd match player he was.

This was the first game of the match - Euwe plays a slightly offbeat variation, with the star move being 6...Qd6.

What does Capa do? He doesn't try to refute this right over the board, instead he steers the game safely towards a draw.

Then... with the time he has between games, he gets ready. Euwe tries this again in the following game, and Capa wins a nice game:

Definitely an example of taking a long term view of things!
