tpstar: 8. fg is a materialistic way to handle the Max Lange, which works very well in practice, although it clears the dark squares on f6 and e7 for Black to defend while half-opening the g file. The key trick is 8 ... Rg8 9. Re1+ Be6 10. Bg5 Be7 11. Bxe7 Kxe7! and Black's King is safe. Please ignore the previous suggestion of 12. Re4 Qd5?! because White plays 13. Nc3 kicking the Queen. Some things you never notice until you play the game. =)
