May-10-06 | | rjsolcruz: It is nice to know that El Eugenio, with his pet Pirc, has scored a win over a former World Champion! |
May-10-06 | | metallicajinx: why not 46. Bxf4 ? |
May-10-06 | | LoFarkas: <metallicajinx> Good question. I see no reason why white wouldn't be winning easily. That in itself doesn't mean much, but Chessmaster agrees... Can't really see how there could be a trap.
I started to suspet that the game score is wrong and the bishop is protected somehow, but chesslab gives the same score. Keenly awaiting expert opinions... |
May-10-06 | | euripides: Perhaps 45 Be1 was played ? |
May-10-06 | | euripides: Chessbase also seems to have Bc1. It was a blitz match. But 45 Be1 makes more sense. |
May-10-06 | | LoFarkas: 45 Be1 doesn't seem possible to me. Then how could 49 Ke1 or 52 Bxf4+ happen?
I can't see how K or p could have been protecting f4 at move 46, either, without massive messups elsewhere in the score. |
May-10-06 | | euripides: <Lo> 46 Bd2 was played in either case, restoring the same position. The only difference made by replacing 45 Bc1 with 45 Be1 is that White's and Black's 45th,and White's 46th, then make sense. |
May-10-06 | | LoFarkas: You are right, sir. Accept my humble apologies.
Tal attacks h4, Torre responds by threataning the b2 pawn, and consequently a3 and c3. Tal then decides to exchange the bishops instead and be done with it.
So how do we cofirm that? Chessbase.com has the same score as cg.com and chesslab... |
May-10-06 | | euripides: <lo> no problem ! I don't know to confirm the score for a blitz game 20 years ago - I guess there should be an official tournament bulletin or record somwhere. It's a very nice game. |

 | | WannaBe: <Resignation Trap>!! You're the master of game records, can you take a look in your library for this game? =) |
May-10-06 | | Resignation Trap: I doubt if I can find this game in my records, but I have seen many typos involving the similarity of a "c" with an "e". The error gets into one database, then others copy it without checking other sources. I'd be willing to bet that's all this is, and I still have nearly all my chessbucks intact. |
Feb-14-09 | | KingG: I think we can safely say 45.Be1 was played. |
Jun-12-09 | | LimSJ: <LoFarkas><metallicajinx> maybe on 45.Bxf4 d3+ white saw a draw after black's kingside pawns lock against white's. or 45.Bxf4 dxc3 locks the Q-side pawns.
2. and add this up to time pressure.
3. lastly, as <Resignation Trap> says it could be a typographical error. |
Oct-14-12 | | sfm: Either two of the brightest minds in history of chess played 45.-,Be5-f4?? 46.Bc1-d2??
Or 45.Bc1 should have been Bd1.
Now, let me think real hard in what to believe... |
Oct-31-12 | | kardopov: I believe it's Be1 because black is threatening dxc3, winning a pawn and clearing the c path for a later pawn push for promotion. |
Nov-11-14 | | kamagong24: inspired play by GM Torre! pabalik balik na lang yung tira ni Tal |
Nov-04-15 | | kamagong24: just have to see this game again! |

Sep-09-16 | | Virgil A: Very impressive endgame by GM Torre. |

Dec-16-16 | | bubuli55: "That's Euge!" |
