chancho: <In recognition of the importance of this tournament, which included several great masters: (Nimzowitsch, Vidmar,Marshall, Bogoljubov, Reti, Sir George Thomas, Colle, etc.), the British Chess Federation contemplated sending (in accordance with a proposal made by Victor Buerger) a challenge to Buenos Aires to the winner of the Capablanca-Alekhine match (which was then still in progress) with the winner of the London tournament under their auspices. "The player proposes, and the tournament disposes", and, in fact, the above mentioned game Nimzowitsch-Colle took a totally inexpected course. After disdaining possible repetions of moves and rejecting offers of a draw by his adversary, the Belgian master ended up -as so often happnens- by putting a pawn enprise and then even lost an equal ending; so that the tournament had two co-victors ex aequo: myself and Nimzowitsch, which nipped in the bud the project of a challenge for the world championship.>
