  Honza Cervenka: White's 27.Re7 was a mistake which could get him in big troubles here if black would have found 27...a4!! Then 28.Rxe6 loses for pretty sac of Queen 28...axb3!! which white cannot accept for mate in two moves (29.Rxe5 c2+ 30.Ka1 Rxa2#) and continuations like 29.bxc3 Qa5 30.Bb3 Rdb8 with threat Rxb3 or 29.Qxc3 bxa2+ 30.Bxa2 Qxc3 31.bxc3 Rab8+ 32.Ka1 (32.Kc2 Rd2+ ) 32...Bd2 or 29.Bxb3 c2+! 30.Ka1 (30.Kxc2 Rd2+; 30.Bxc2 Qxe6) 30...Qc5 are not satisfactory for white too. Better would have been 27.Bxe6.

keypusher: After 27. Re7?, Pollock writes in the tournament book:

<We have now arrived at a small series of those "blunders" which are to a great extent inseparable from the kind of chess which produces splendid position in the most arduous conditions, but which are so easy to anathematize in the purlieus of the Strand! It may be assumed that Tchigorin saw a probable draw by (the really necessary) 27. BxB, QxB; 28. R-KB sq, P-R5; 29. R-B8 ch, RxR; 30. QxR ch, Q-Kt sq; 31. QxQ ch, KxQ; 32. Kt-B5, but elected to play for higher stakes.>

They don't write 'em like that anymore...

Pollock goes on to say that the winning 27....a4 as given in Honza's note was demonstrated by Lasker immediately after the game, and <Black's actual combination is also very fine, but as will be seen it gives the opponent a loophole, on his 30th move.>
