Aug-16-07  SniperOnKN2: 3 passed pawns pushed, 3 eaten. Obviously this guy does't understand what protected passed pawn means...

Beautiful poison pawn var. by Botvinnik.

Nov-06-12  vinidivici: very instructive game!

The game is like built by Botvinnik brick by brick.

Feb-14-13  Garech: Great game from Botvinnik - the king of the Winawer? Perhaps it should be called the Botvinnik variation?

-Garech

Jun-30-13  jeupham: There is a problem: the player of the black pieces is actually George Steven Botterill and was played at the BCF Congress, Ayr, 1978. I was there. John Upham.

Phony Benoni: <jeupham> Just checked a file of games for the tournament from BritBase, and that's right. I'm sure George Steven Botterill is quite flattered to be compared favorably to Botvinnik.

I've sent in a correction slip. Hopefully, we can also clear up the other dubious Botvinnik games.

Jun-30-13  RookFile: I did think that 1978 would be rather late for a Botvinnik game.
Jun-30-13  JimNorCal: I was impressed that Mr Carleton could extend a world champion so far! Too bad the name is wrong...

The final phase of the endgame is instructive, white knight vs black rook and a-pawn. Compare Lasker v Lasker, New York 1924.

Jul-01-13  offramp: Someone's auto-complete must have been on after B-O-T.
Jul-23-13  jerseybob: jeupham: Even though this is two years late, good luck at the BCM. BCM annuals have given me a lot of good reading down through the years - yes, even the ratty 1971 edition. Bob Hunt
