Aug-17-22  Messiah: I can't help but feel that somewhere around 23.Bxc5 Botvinnik had winning chances. Currently I have no time analyzing it, so if anyone can post some insights, I would be very happy, thanks.
Aug-17-22  Besrqe: <@Messiah> Yes, good catch. SF says 22...Qf6 is a weak move in a balanced position and 22...Bd6 is much stronger. SF says Botvinnik's play was ok until 31.c5, where SF calculates it is best to play 31.Re7 and start going after c6 and/or f5 immediately.

Going back to move 23, or again at move 25, I actually think Botvinnik chose the wrong line of play. If White is going for a win, then he must see that his 2 plans are,

A) An advance of the KR pawn to h5
B) Playing against Black's Qside pawns which are both on half open files.

Both of these plans are on the flank, so White is going to want to fix the center, not open it like he did. One of the reasons 22...Qf6 is weak is it lets White do so with tempo.

Playing e5 at move 23 or 25 allows White to fix the center with tempo and focus on one or both of his flank targets. For instance, 22...Qf6?, 23.e5 Qe7, 24.Bb3+ Be6, 25.Nh5! or 24...Kh8, 25.Rac1
