keypusher: Another instructional classic trashed by SF. Instead of exploiting that hole on d5 White is apparently supposed to push the pawn and wall in his own bishops.

SF 11 at 20 minutes (38 ply) likes 14.d5 the most (+1.59) but doesn't hate 14.dxe5 (+1.17) transposing to the game (14...Nxe5 15.Nh4). The problem with 14.dxc5 is that it allows 14....Ndxc5 and White's pawns are at least as weak as Black's. For example, 15.Nh4 Qf6! 16.a4 Rd8 17.a5 Ng5 18.Bxg5 Qxg5, etc. Of course, there is an alternative version of this game in which White plays 14.dxe5: https://www.chessgames.com/perl/dup.... Guessing that's the right version, but does anyone have a good source?

Couple of points from later:

When White finally consummates his strategy and plants his knight on d5, of course it's a mistake.

Instead of 28.Nd5, 28.Bc6 is stronger, e.g. 28....Rd8 29.Rd6 Rfe8 30.Rf1 Qh5 31.Qxh5 Nxh5 32.Rfd1 and the pin is decisive, e.g. 32....Re7 33.Rxe6 Rxe6 34.Bxd7, or 28....Rd8 29.Rd6 Nh5 30.Bd5! Bxd5 31.Ng4!!, etc.

30.Qe4 was also a mistake. After 30....Qh5 31.Nxf4 Rxf4 32.Rxf4 gxf4 33.Qxf4 Re7 Black would still have been in it. But after 30....Qf5 the game was heading for the textbooks.

Feb-08-21  Retireborn: <keypusher> 14.dxe5 according my sources.

keypusher: <Retireborn> thanks -- not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but what are your sources? Worthy of a correction slip?
Feb-08-21  Z legend 000000010: It's always good to cite cite sources on this site, right?
Feb-08-21  Retireborn: <keypusher> It would have been the Khalifman/Soloviev Convekta CD collection, and some book, although I can't remember which one. Unfortunately I no longer own this stuff, but my notes attach a ! to 14.dxe5 and that is also the move in CB Megabase 2021.

Feb-08-21  Z legend 000000010: Citing is always good in my book, though "cite cite" might be one cite too many!
Aug-16-22  MarianoFreyre: Amazing Nh4 and Ne3. And c4 for Nd5. Bg2. All amazing.
