Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-16-07  Grumpi: This is 12 game of USSR championship match.
Dec-19-07  M.D. Wilson: The repetition of moves is a common feature in Botvinnik's games. Usually he would use this technique in winning positions when close to Adjournment. The psychological effect of reinforcing the inevitable must have been no less than depressing for an opponent, especially against someone like Botvinnik, who played like the proverbial steamroller.

Phony Benoni: <dtsherer> After 41.Rxg7+ Kxg7 42.Qxe5+ we have this position:

Black must now lose his rook to a fork by the queen, leaving White up a bishop and several pawns with Black having no chances for perpetual check. For example:

41...Kh7/Kf7 42.Qe7+.

41...Kg8 42.Qe6+ Kh8 (42...Kg7/h7 43.Qe7+ again) 43.Qf6+.

42...Kg6 42.h5+ and the king must move back to the fatal seventh rank.

May-09-09  xombie: Botvinnik's game have a very lively feel to them. Very beautiful and instructive.
Apr-03-13  GBKnight: The positions after black's 35th, 37th, and 39th moves were identical, so he could have claimed a draw before making his 39th move on the board. It is possible black was short of time here.

ToTheDeath: Great opening by Botvinnik to secure a better position, I really like the exchange sac too. This was a great match.
