suenteus po 147: I'm guessing this game was played in the 1931 Leningrad City Chess Championship. Do any other games from this tournament survive? I imagine all of Botvinnik's games did, but is that it?

Benzol: Chess Stars has this game as Round 12 in the 8th Leningrad Ch.

Round 6 Schipunov - Botvinnik 0-1

Round 7 Botvinnik - Model 1/2-1/2

Round 14 Savitsky - Botvinnik 0-1

Round 15 Botvinnik - Kubbel 1-0.

suenteus po 147: <Benzol> Do you suppose it was the war years or perhaps a lack of publication that lead to these game scores being lost?

Benzol: My money would be on the War but I wouldn't be surprised if the missing scores turn up some day having been mislaid and then found in somebody's dusty old files.

keypusher: There is some interesting stuff at the end.

48.Kg3 threatens 49.h4+ Kh5 50.Rxh7#. But after 48....h6, 49.h4+ Kh5 50.Rh7 Rd3+ (but not 50....Bg7 51.Rxh6+ Bxh6 52.Nf6#!) 51.Kf4 Bc1+ 52.Ke4 Rxd2 53.Rxd2 bxa2 wins for Black.

Dynamic Benoni-type play capped by a piece sacrifice earlier on from Botvinnik. This was quite a game.

Aug-04-15  ughaibu: Small correction, moves 52 and 53 are captures on d7.
