  Honza Cervenka: To allow black King to penetrate on f4 was an unfortunate mistake from Janowski's part. 54.Kf2 was still okay as after 54...Kf4 55.Rh1! g5 <(55...Bxg4?? 56.Rh4 )> 56.Rh6 Bxg4 57.Rf6+ Bf5 58.Bd1 <(threatening Bc2 with win of pinned Bf5)> 58...Ke4 59.Bf3+ <[But not 59.Bc2+?! Kxd4 60.Rxf5 Rxe5 61.Rxe5? (61.Rf7 is better but white still faces troubles) 61...Kxe5 62.Ke3 d4+ 63.Kd3 Kd5 64.Bd1 Kxc5 65.Bf3 Kb4 and black Passers must win the game against Bishop.]> 59...Kxd4 <(59...Kf4 60.Bd1 =)> 60.Rxf5 Rxe5 61.Rxe5 Kxe5 62.Ke3 Kf5 63.Be2 g4 64.Bf1 Kg5 65.Bd3 g3!? 66.Bf1! <(66.Kf3? Kf6! 67.Kxg3 Ke5 )> white should keep draw easily. But 55.Rb1 was a mistake. 55.Kg3 was safe.

plang: Jaffe had played 10..Nf6 against Janowski in the 2nd game of their 1916 match and Black had gone on to win; 10..Be7 was new. The maneuver 14..Kf8 and 18..h5 is a fairly modern one. 23..Qc8 24 Nexd7+..Nxd7 25 Bf5..Bxc5 26 bxc would have strongly favored White. 28..Nd7 was just in time to answer White's g4 with simplifying exchanges and equality. As mentioned in the above post White misplaced the ending leading to a loss.
