plang: 8..Ne7!? was a new idea which has not been repeated; 8..Qc7 is the main line which had been played twice previously. 12 g4..c4 13 bxc..dxc 14 Qxb7..cxd 15 cxd..Ned5! would have favored Black. White got into troulbe after 16 g4?!; Alekhine recommended 16 c3..c4 17 Bc2. Alekhine dismissed 17 Be2 but Bogdanovich pointed out that after 17..cxb 18 Bd3!?..bxc 19 gxf..exf 20 Bxf5 the position is unclear. 20..Rxf5 would have won quickly avoiding the dangerous counterplay White obtained in the game; had White continued with 26 Rxe2 rather than the blunder 26 Rf1? he would have had good drawing chances in the opposite-color bishop ending.
Jun-18-22  spingo: It's easy to be impatient and play 27...Qe4+.

That forces the swap of queens immediately, and ends the attack. So after 27...Qe4+ 28. Qxe4 dxe4 there is the deadly threat of 29...e3(#).

But at the end the rook on the f-file, ready to pounce.
