nasmichael: Stoltz started out as a mechanic, and to see his over 300 games posted here is encouraging. Perhaps today there is a turning of the circle, with strong players pursuing other fields instead of professional chess. We have many "chess professionals" who do not play tournament chess at the highest levels, but who rather instill the principles of good play and love for the game in young players. Play on!
Jun-23-06  blingice: 35..Rxg2 would be bad, because 36. Rf7 then white will lose a queen for a rook and lose his bishop outright.

Apparently, the major blunder for Nimzowich here was 33..Ba4, allowing white to break his pawn structure, and allowing the white rooks to smash through.

Peligroso Patzer: Stoltz vs. Nimzowitsch (Berlin 1928) features one of my favorite pawn endings. The position after 52. Kxd2 is easy to misjudge; I wonder if Stoltz thought he was winning at that point. Perhaps the recollection of that disappointment inpired him in this game three years later.
