Jan-14-04  tayer: 78. ... ♗b6 (to prevent 79. ♘a2 ... 80. ♘b4 ... 81. ♘c6 ... 82. ♘xa7) looks better. It seems to me that by keeping the white ♘ out of Mason could have saved the game.

tamar: The knight can try another trick, but I think you are right. 78...♗d6 79. ♘a4 (threat ♘xb6) 79...♗c7 80 ♘b2 ♗d6 81 ♘d3 ♘ow if bishop moves, white wins but 81...♔e7 and black holds the draw.
Jan-14-04  tayer: Yep. I think that, by moving the ♔ between e6 and f6 while leaving the ♗ at d6 to exchange it for the white ♘ if it moves to b4 or e5,nd moving the ♗ to c7 if the ♘ goes to a4. Black is saved. The only other options that come to my mind is that while plays ♘c3, and black has to keep the ♔ on e6 (and move the ♗ back and forth arround d6), and finally if white plays h4 ... hxg5, black answers hxg5 and can hold on.

offramp: Joseph Blackburne as an avatar of Magnus Carlsen. Nothing happens from move 31 to 70.

Then cataclysm.
