Phony Benoni: It's not unusual for both players to have pawns on the seventh rank. But on the same file?

Nov-08-13  paavoh: This could have well been from a 960Chess game. Personally, I find it hard to follow Basman's thoughts. He seems Moro to the power of three, at least :-)
Jan-02-17  Albion 1959: This game features in Basman's book The Tactical Grob. An unusual Mickey Mouse opening leads to a fascinating minor piece struggle. A lesser known game that was full of drama and action. I have looked at Basman's games and he likes using his knights ! Under his guidance they really are tricky pieces that he works to his advantage:
Jan-26-17  Albion 1959: Goodman still had a draw in hand, but let it slip with 65 Rf1+?? For example 65 Kf4 Ra4+!
66 Kf5 Ra5+
67 Kf6 Rxe6+
68 Kxe6 d1=Q
69 Rg8+ Kh7 With a draw, if
70 d8=Q Qe2+
With a barrage of checks the game is a clear draw!
Jan-26-17  ChessHigherCat: "The endlessly base beats the good man"(where "endlessly base" is a cryptic crossword-type clue meaning base without the end (final letter) bas[e] + man). PB's diagram does look a bit like a composition.
