Dec-20-05  sucaba: On move 90 White can draw with ♖c8, ♖b8, or ♔f1, while ♖e7 is #22. The black moves 90. _ ♗e4, 91. _ ♔e3 and 92. _ ♖c2 are only. (Nalimov Tablebase)

Mateo: <sucaba> I would rather say that the blunder was 91.Kd1?. The King shouldn't move. If White plays 91.Re8, for instance, 91...Ke3 92.Rf8, and if 92...Rh1+ 93.Rf1. This is why the King should stay on the 'e' file. With the White King on the 'd' file, this defence is no longer possible.
Nov-18-09  hedgeh0g: R+B vs R is a theoretical draw, but apparently White lost this game after an adjournment!

GrahamClayton: 80... Rxb3 81. Rxe3+ and either black capture results in stalemate.

Retireborn: Is this the game after which Gufeld (jokingly) threatened to kill Andersson every time he saw him?

Might have been some other Gufeld disaster.

Sep-03-21  CivilDisobedience: ...why 96. Rb5 ?...
Sep-04-21  Granny O Doul: The only other way to extend the game is with 96. Rxe4+. Though the latter move delays mate longer, 96. Rb5 offers greater practical chances.

If 91.Re8, then 91...Ke3 92.Rf8 Rc2! 93.Rd8 (93.Kd1 Rc6 94.Re8 Rg6 95.Kc1 Rb6 leaves white with no other choice than 96.Rxe4+) 93...Bc6! 94.Rd6 (or 94.Kd1 Rc5! 95.Ke1 Rg5 96.Rf8 Bb5 97.Kd1 Rc5 98.Rd8 Ba4+ 99.Ke1 Rc1+ 100.Rd1 Rxd1#) 94...Bf3 95.Re6+ Be4 96.Rd6 Re2+ 97.Kd1 Rg2 98.Kc1 Rc2+ 99.Kd1 Rc5 100.Re6 (or 100.Ke1 Bd5 101.Kd1 Bf3+ 102.Ke1 Rc1+ with mate) 100...Rb5 and white must give up the Rook to avoid immediate mate. As <sucaba> have written years ago, 90.Re7?? was decisive mistake.
