Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-16-04  Knight13: Bird did a good job on setting up the attacks. 39. Qh5!? is a mistake. And the mistake Anderssen made is that he moved his queen on h6, wich it get stuck there.

If 41. Kxg2, then 41... Nf4+ fork. If 41. Rg8, then 41... Nf4 helps. My point is that Black is much better than White.

Good game.

Jul-21-13  offramp: Agreed; the bishop seems better placed on b2 than on g5. White's loss is caused by subsequent problems.
Apr-10-21  cehertan: Bird’s 18...c3 was an inspired (and for him, refreshingly sound) pawn sac. If you look at the position several moves later (say move 25) by returning the gambit pawn black has exchanged off his worst piece and achieved harmonious play, with 2 B’s raking the diagonals.
