Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-16-06  RookFile: Alburt waved the red flag in front of the bull in this game.

He might have tried 3.... Qb6, although Spassky clearly would have gambitted the b pawn.

4....0-0 so early is asking for trouble against this setup - in the 1966 world champship match, Petrosian delayed castling to keep white guessing, and ultimately castling queenside. Evidently Alburt thought that exchanging off the powerful d3 bishop would make this ok, but Spassky whips up a strong attack anyway.

Jun-16-06  euripides: The very fine final phase, in which the queen totally paralyses the rook and two knights (33 Qc7 !), reminds me of Karpov's play with Q vs.R+N in Karpov vs Spassky, 1975
