Eggman: A real whuppin'. I wonder where Adorjan miscalculated. Funny to see an elite GM collapse so quickly, having been taken out of book.
Feb-22-08  Tomlinsky: 9.e5 looks logical and innocent enough at first sight but turns out to be a complete disaster. It appears that Adorjan believed that the d-pawn couldn't be taken with Qf2 leaving both knights en prise overlooking Bc5 spearing the queen in his calculations.

Even so, if that is the case, not readjusting and being able to find the save 11.Be3 and just taking the knight anyway is a bit of a mystery.

Jun-20-12  Zugzwangovich: You don't often find a game in which both GMs get their queens trapped!
Jun-20-12  King Death: A lot of nervous tension was probably at work for both players, they were 5-4 going into this game and needed to win for a shot at qualifying. Spassky managed to score another win and draw his other 2 games to finish 8-5. A win by Spassky against Igor Ivanov in the last round would've forced a three way playoff for the two spots that Torre and Portisch got instead as they both took quick draws. http://www.365chess.com/tournaments...
