Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-03-08  charms: b4! was Shirov's recommendation, according to himself in "Fire on board". A fine victory by Timman, worth being Game of the day one day.
Oct-30-11  Doctor Aust: I would say Adams was comprehensively 'out-booked' here, since the whole game up to Black's 19th move (by which time he is dead lost) follows a game between Zoltan Ribli and the Dutch IM Coenraad Zuidema from Wijk aan Zee 1973:

Ribli vs C Zuidema, 1973

Timman and Zuidema had contested this variation of the Exchange Lopez as far back as 1970:

Timman vs C Zuidema, 1970

- so one tends to suspect Timman knew the Ribli-Zuidema game while Adams didn't.

Oct-31-11  Retireborn: <Doctor Aust> That's an interesting point; perhaps Adams' preparation was based only on this game?:

Seirawan vs Karpov, 1993

It seems that 15...Ne7 is the move to keep things level, whether White plays 14.Kf1 or 14.Kh1. One wonders what Karpov had in mind against 17.Nc7!
