plang: The sharp line 8..a5!? is referred to as the Uogele variation named after the Lithuanian correspondence player. The immediate 15 c5..Na5 16 cxd..Nxb3 17 dxe..Qxe7 18 axb..Ng4 would have been good for Black. Svidler thought that 23 a4 would have been a stronger move maintaining White's edge. White doesn't have time for 27 a6? as after 27..bxa 28 Nxa6..d4! 29 Nxb8..dxe Black is winning. Topalov's decision to avoid the repetition with 35..Qh4 was rewarded after 36 Rc1? and White was suddenly lost.
Jul-17-15  Albanius: This is not ECO B23, the Closed Sicilian, despite White's second move. White played 4 d4 making it an open Sicilian, specifically the Accelerated Dragon, ECO B35.
