May-01-04  Gwinnett: Hiya Chessgames (smiles). I think that it's Sir George Alan Thomas who played this game, not "I Thomas."
May-01-04  Lawrence: <Gwinnett>, may I be the first to welcome you. "Chess Stars" doesn't give the initials of the players in Nottingham in 1936. Does anyone else have confirmation?

Chessical: <Gwinnett> You are correct. It is Sir George A Thomas - source: Alekhine's tournament book.
May-02-04  TrueFiendish: BTW, Thomas was very handy at racquet sports. He was a badminton champ and made it to the quarters at Wimbledon.
Nov-25-05  meloncio: Another reference confirms it: Botvinnik's "Selected Games", when writing about his games in this tournament.
Jun-25-10  xombie: Very instructive annotations by Alekhine. It could have been so easy to relinquish the small grip that black had by hanging on to the extra pawns etc. Masterful play.
