Gypsy: A sweet endgame. Especially the R+P's part, starting with White move 44, has a classic design.

I see no real improvement for Black. For instance, <46...Ra8 47.g4 Ra7 48.Re4 Ra8 49.Kc5 Ra6 50.Kd6...> and White soon wins because of the threat <51.Kc7>.

Feb-03-08  whiteshark: Thanks <Gypsy>! My idea of <46...Rd4+> didn't work either: <47.Kb3 Rd3+ 48.Kc4 Rd5 49.g4! >

and after Kb4 the a-pawn will be advanced. This will force the black rook into an inferior position.

Jul-19-20  zydeco: Wow, Treybal really played well. He outplays Reti in the middlegame. 22....Bxe8?! might be the key inaccuracy, creating congestion on black's back rank.

42.d6! is a really interesting idea - giving up the extra pawn (which was lost by that point) for a passed rook pawn and a more mobile king.

OhioChessFan: <zydeco> White's game plays itself for the next 15 moves or so after 22...Bxe8.
