Mamedyarov's horrible 8-move(!) loss to Kamsky at the Mainz Finet 960 Open.

White (Mamedyarov) cannot meet the simple threat to the <UNDEFENDED> White a1-knight of 9 ... ♗e4x♘a1 and so he resigned.

This is a -great- example of the Chernev/Reinfeld saying that <<<<There are always threats against undefended pieces>>>>.

With 33 ... ♕g6xe4?, Black lines up his <UNDEFENDED> Black e4-queen with the White e5-bishop. This alignment absolutely -provokes- the creation of a <DISCOVERED ATTACK> because White has the <DISCOVERY CHAIN> White e5-bishop + Black e4-queen (<UNDEFENDED>).

White then plays the excellent tactical sequence 34 ♕d1-d8+ ♔g8-f7 35 ♕d8-f6+ ♔f7-e8 (35 ... ♔f7-g8 36 ♕f6-g7#) 36 ♕f6-e6+!, shown below:

Now White has completed the <DISCOVERY CHAIN> White e6-queen (<PRINCIPAL ATTACKER>) + White e5-bishop (<DISCOVERER>) + Black e4-queen (<VICTIM>), and with <TEMPO> (<GAIN OF TIME>) to boot.

Wherever the Black e8-king moves to get out of check, a <DISCOVERY> from the White e5-bishop will win the <UNDEFENDED> Black e4-queen:
