Selected Games and Tournament Information.

FIDE World Championship Tournament:

In 2007 a tournament was held in Mexico City which invited the strongest players in the world, including the reigning champion Vladimir Kramnik. It was an eight-player, double round robin tournament, and the winner was to earn the title of World Champion. In the event that Kramnik did not win the tournament, FIDE would allow him to have a title match against the victor in 2008.

Viswanathan Anand with a score of 9/14 (+4-0=10). Anand become World Champion, in a un-traditional manner, by winning this tournament. See World Championship Tournament (2007) for all the games..

Candidates Tournament:

Aronian v Carlsen 2007: World Championship Candidates (2007) where Levon Aronian won 7/12 (+5-3=4).

Championships:

Maxime Vachier-Lagrave won the 2007 French Championship in a playoff with a score of 7.5/11 (+5-1=5). See his games: French Championship (2007)/Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. Maxime Vachier Lagrave became the second-youngest grandmaster in the world in 2005, just behind Norway's Magnus Carlsen.

Hao Wang is the champion and Xiangzhi Bu is the sub-champion in the Asian Individual Championship (2007). Missing some round 10 games.

Veselin Topalov wins Liga de Campeones (2007) with a score of 7/10 (+5-1=4). His only loss was to Judit Polgar, however, he was 1.5 points ahead of second place.

Corus Group C (2007). Won by Mikhail Krasenkow 10.5/13 (+9-1=3).

Czech Coal Carlsbad Tournament (2007). Sergei Movsesian 4.5/7 (+2-0=5) and Ruslan Ponomariov 4.5/7 (+2-0=5) were equal first.

Aeroflot Open (2007). Evgeny Alekseev, with another great win after the title of Russian champion.

Casino de Barcelona (2007). Won by Hikaru Nakamura 7/9 (+6-1=2.)

Ruy Lopez Festival (2007). Won by Gabriel Sargissian 6.5/7 (+6-0=1).

Foxwoods Open (2007). Gata Kamsky is the winner on speed playoff, beating out Izoria, Ibragimov and Stripunsky (all finished with 7/9).

Moscow Open (2007). Najer and Yemelin shared first place with 7.5/9.

11th Essent Chess Tournament (2007). In a small field of four players Shakhriyar Mamedyarov won with a score of 4.5/6 (+3-0=3).

World Blitz Championship (2007). Won by Vassily Ivanchuk 25.5/38 (+19-6=13).

Pivdenny Bank Chess Cup (2007). Also won by Ivanchuk over a strong field with a score of 7/9 (+6-1=2). He beat both Gelfand and Radjabov playing black!

Cappelle Open (2007). Over 600 players, including 87 GMs and 81 IMs participated.. Wang Yue beat out Miroshnichenko, Gashimov, Arutinian, Drozdovskij, and Yemelin on tiebreaks (all scoring 7/9).
