The 15th annual Interpolis international chess tournament, held in Tilburg, The Netherlands, was a catgeory XVII event. Eight grandmasters, including the world champion, were invited to participate in the double round robin. The participants were (in order of ELO): Garry Kasparov (2770), Anatoli Karpov (2730), Evgeny Bareev (2680), Nigel Short (2660), Vishwanathan Anand (2650), Jan Timman (2630), Viktor Korchnoi (2610), and last year's winner, Gata Kamsky (2595). Once again, Kasparov dominated, being defeated only by Anand in their second encounter. The final standings and crosstable are as follows:
