Oct-01-10  slomarko: what do you guys think of this?

standings before last round:
1.Russia I 20pts
2.China 16pts
3.Ukraine, Georgia, Russia II, Poland 15pts

last round pairings:
Russia I vs Russia II
China vs Ukraine
Georgia vs Poland

Oct-01-10  bharatiy: <slomarko> wait till tomorrow, if Russia 1 lose which they will have to, in case they want to favor Russia II that would be very bad for chess events and that would mean that you can have only one team per nation.
Oct-01-10  slomarko: <bharatiy> in my opinion it is really appalling that FIDE allows the pairing Russia I vs Russia II in the last round.
Oct-01-10  bharatiy: <slomarko> once you allowed them to have multiple teams then I dont think you can do much, if swiss demands they have to be paired then they have to. It will be good in short term if they play chess and dont go for pre arranged result. It will be good in long term if they go for pre arranged result as many people will protest and then may be they wont allow such thing going forward.
Oct-01-10  Nina Myers: And tomorrow both of you will look like complete dumbasses.
Oct-01-10  slomarko: <Nina Myers: And tomorrow both of you will look like complete dumbasses.>

tomorrow? are you sure about that?

Oct-01-10  Nina Myers: And <the day after tomorrow> both of you will look like complete dumbasses. How do you like them apples, smartypants?
Oct-02-10  virginmind: with one round to go the first 5 teams are ranked in the same order as at the start of competition. good luck tomorrow against argentina, romania, maybe we'll get a final place among first ten!
Oct-02-10  Beholder: <virginmind: with one round to go the first 5 teams are ranked in the same order as at the start of competition.>

Interesting observation. Maybe the Elo isn't so bad after all.

Oct-03-10  Roger Krueger: Bravo Mamedjarova--the Azeris put their fourth-ranked player on board one, and she responds by going on a tear and winning a board bronze with a 2608 performance on a 2234 rating.

jaime gallegos: great result by the peruvian female team ! young players to support in the near future !
Oct-03-10  Bdellovibrio: Incredible +7 score from Nadezhda Kosintseva
Oct-04-10  Caissanist: <Is there a husband/wife or a brother/sister participating in this tournament?>

Jorge and Deysi Cori from Peru.

Oct-04-10  Caissanist: Also, Shakyriar Mamedyarov, Zeinab Mamedjarova, and Turkan Mamedjarova from Azerbaijan. In both cases brother and sister(s).
Oct-04-10  weisyschwarz: Jen Wujun cleans house!!
Oct-04-10  Kinghunt: <Incredible +7 score from Nadezhda Kosintseva>

I take it this will earn her a GM norm? How many does she have now?

Oct-04-10  Kinghunt: <Incredible +7 score from Nadezhda Kosintseva>

I know she had one already from Biel 2010... and since I imagine it would be bigger news if this was her final norm... this must make her second. Congrats!

Oct-04-10  Kinghunt: Or does this count at all, since despite her phenomenal performance, she only faced one grandmaster?
Oct-04-10  Kaspablanca: Lisandro Muñoz was the top board of the men Dominican Republic team, while his sister was the reserve board of the Dominican Republic women team.
Oct-05-10  mike1: Zhukova/Grischuk are hard to beat as
wife/husband pair.
Oct-05-10  virginmind: alina l'ami/erwin l'ami (wife & husband, playing for romania/holland)

also, sabina-francesca foisor/cristina-adela foisor (daughter & mother, playing for usa/romania)

Oct-12-10  visayanbraindoctor: 11 matches, 11 victories.

Astounding performance by the Russian ladies. Ridiculous even.(",)

(I hope Board 1 Tatiana K. gets to be World Champion some day; although with Hou on the rise, it's probably only a dim possibility. Hou has all the time in the world, and so hopefully, the Russian number 1 can take the Title before Hou reigns for a long time.)

Has any other country aside from the old Soviet Union gone though the Women's Olympiad winning every match?
