Hoogovens (1991)

The 53rd Hoogovens tournament was held at the De Moriaan centre in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands, from 18 January to 3 February 1991. Rest days: 21, 24, 28 January and 2 February. Tournament category: XIV (2585). First prize: 14,000 Dutch guilders. Chief arbiter: Thomas van Beekum (replacing Constant Orbaan, who had passed away in December). Round 1 started at 1:30 pm, with free entrance for spectators.

John Nunn, the oldest player, won again with 8.5/13.

Hoogovens Group B (1991) was won by Alfonso Romero Holmes with 8/11. Wijk aan Zee also hosted the Korchnoi - Sax Candidates Eighthfinal (1991) and Yusupov - Dolmatov Candidates Eighthfinal (1991), which both started on 23 January.
