Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-05-23  Tiresias: What a brilliant attack by the super talent Eline Roebers!

FSR: An incandescent brilliancy! Come On Eline! Or get a better pun, but make it GOTD! Just glorious! I checked it with Stockfish 16, which confirms that Roebers played extremely well.

perfidious: <FSR>, it was a surprise to me that White's sixth move, which looked potty, has been played so often, not to mention that it has scored quite well.

My proposal for GOTD is: Roebery in Broad Daylight.

FSR: <perfidious> Agree about White's sixth, which must be a computer idea. And your pun is certainly better than mine.

perfidious: <FSR>, I still have several submissions from 2014 awaiting the light of day; fortunately, I can be relentlessly patient at times.
Nov-07-23  goodevans: The pun really should have a comma after 'Come on' else it's meaning is a bit dubious. Are we being asked to do something to Eline which we might not be too proud of later?

For the record, I submitted almost the same pun in anguish at her 'win that turned to a loss' in T Beerdsen vs E Roebers, 2023. It differed only in the punctuation.

An Englishman: Good Evening: A wealth of good puns for this game; "Roebery in Broad Daylight" would have also worked. It looks more than a little implausible that 6.a3 should prove such an effective attacking move, but the onus lies with Black to come up with something consistently effective.
Nov-07-23  hassanbahaa: Looks very nuch like a computer playing

FSR: Heh, <OCF> likes my pun a lot better than I did. Most unusual. I would have gone with <perfidious>'s <Roebery in Broad Daylight>, but I'll take it. As for <goodevans>' remark, I have seen a Halloween costume on that theme. Thanks to Google, you can too. I'll leave it there. I too would, all things being equal, prefer a comma, but the song doesn't have one, so I didn't use one either. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Come_...

But the game's what's important. It's glorious. Roebers had an off tournament. I hope this magnificent brilliancy made up for it to some extent.

MissScarlett: <Roebery with Violence> would have been my choice, but E Roebers vs L'Ami, 2023 is too fresh in the memory.
Nov-07-23  goodevans: 28.Nf5 was an exquisite but unnecessary Q-sac. Was the intention to torture her opponent? And did Elina think, even for a moment, that 28...Nd3+ would turn certain defeat into a win?

perfidious: Rowland has led a life featuring much fluctuation, going from world fame to being on the dole, then back to a degree of renown.

OhioChessFan: The fact a game existed between 2 Elines was worth an extra point for the pun.

  FSR: Good point.
