Jun-23-08		whiteshark: Far from likely. Karpov lost 2 games at Caracas, this one and Kavalek vs Karpov, 1970 He won 8 games and drew another 7. He finished 4-5th together with Ivkov with 11.5/17 point a half point behind Stein, Kavalek and Panno.

Mar-02-09		JaneEyre: <I made a good start to the tournament (6.5 points out of 7) and that is when insufficient experience told on me: I was stumped, being unable to decide what to strive for: to play for top place, which meant taking risks, going for a win in every game, or to set myself a minimal aim - to fulfil the norms for the grandmaster's title. In the latter cse it was necessary to draw with the strongest, the very same Ivkov, and to pick up points from weaker players. When Ivkov offered me a draw (I had the better position), I refused and became frightened at once for making such a decision. And I lost. Only at the end of the tournament did I get over it.>

Mar-02-09		euripides: <ugh, white> It is included in a collection of Karpov's games written by Peter Markland in 1974/5, where Markland says Karpov chose the games.

Nov-08-12		alexmagnus: Karpov included this game in his "Chosen games 1969-77" book. It was the only lost game in the book, and this is also the game which he ends annotating with "You shouldn't play for a win if deep inside you are satisfied with a draw".
