<34th Western Championshp
Detroit, Michigan
September 23-October 1, 1933>

There is a legend that Reshevsky was asked before the tournament if he expected to win. His reply: "Who is there to beat me?"

He was right. Nobody beat him.

Reuben Fine and <Samuel Reshevsky> continued their domination, followed by two more young New Yorkers in <Arthur Dake> and <Robert Willman>. The next four included three former champions of the regional days; it was now obvious the old generation wasn't going to keep up. The tournament was held at the Hotel Tuller in Detroit, Michigan, and sponsored by the Auto City Chess and Checker Club.

Smile! OK, at least don't frown.
